WHAT IS A THEORY OF CHANGE?
A ‘theory of change’ explains how the work of an organisation is expected to lead to specific changes. It can help to guide sound, evidence-based, program strategies. The Infuse Theory of Change addresses three core challenges.

How we contribute to change
Infuse’s Theory of Change begins with three challenges that we seek to address:
- A preference for adopting quick-fixes and simple technical solutions when trying to resolve complex challenges.
- Structural disadvantage and discrimination
- A feeling of powerlessness towards addressing our biggest global priorities
Distilled down, we see that many people want to contribute to positive social and environmental change, but are often unsure where to begin.
At a time when there are more young people in the world than ever before, we see enormous potential in youth becoming leaders of change.
As the most recent United Nations UN World Youth Report states “The active engagement of youth in sustainable development efforts is central to achieving sustainable, inclusive and stable societies.”
Active Citizenship to power positive change
We see this as an opportunity to support young people in becoming active citizens, who work in partnership with institutions and communities to create positive, equitable and sustainable collective change.
Focusing on education, we identify three key pathways for change. First is providing young people with the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, second is to empower young people with the technical and social-emotional skills to take action, and third is to connect young people with opportunities to work collectively for change.
Through experiential learning, service learning, and the joy of travel, we seek to support youth active citizenship – promoting the social and emotional development of young people AND young people’s more engaged participation in positive social and environmental change.
