Amanda Hunter
Polar Expeditions Manager
Amanda was born in New York and raised in California where she quickly developed an insatiable love for the ocean. After earning her degree at Oregon State University in Fisheries and Wildlife Science, specialising in Marine Science, she dedicated her time to travelling and volunteering with a variety of non-profit foundations around the globe.
As Amanda’s passion for education and travel increased, she gained experience working as an International Student Travel Guide throughout the South Pacific region. When stateside, she spent her time teaching hands-on marine biology to students at the Catalina Island Marine Institute. It was on Catalina where she realised the true magic that unfolds when connecting youth with our planet’s ocean.

FAQs
The Antarctica school expedition is a 13-day educational voyage that combines ocean science curriculum with hands-on environmental research and polar exploration. Developed alongside leading polar scientists, the programme allows students to achieve academic credit while contributing to scientific understanding of critical marine ecosystems and global climate systems.
Students participate in a variety of physical and scientific activities including Zodiac cruises, guided shore hikes, wildlife encounters and interactive polar workshops. Adventurous students may also opt to participate in snowshoeing, kayaking or the polar plunge which involves a supervised immersion into the Southern Ocean.
Participants engage in citizen science by collecting data on ice cover, water temperature and marine life to support long-term conservation strategies. This data is used by our scientific partners to monitor climate change impacts and implement proactive environmental stewardship in the polar regions.
The expedition includes a two-day crossing of the Drake Passage where students participate in onboard educational lectures while scouting for majestic seabirds and the first sightings of icebergs. As the point where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet, the crossing serves as a rite of passage for travellers and provides a unique classroom for learning about ocean currents and polar history.
