To ensure we are aligned with global sustainability agendas and goals, as well as continually advancing critical global citizenship education, Infuse follows a robust 7-Stage Teaching and Learning Framework.
Acting as a roadmap for program design and implementation, this framework, in conjunction with the Infuse Theory of Change, has been developed over many years by our Director of Impact, Dr Kearrin Sims – a global development scholar and Adjunct Senior Lecturer at James Cook University.
Closer to home, Infuse travel programs are also carefully aligned with the Australian School Curriculum, ensuring that every experience enriches young minds and prepares them with the skills and competencies fit for the 21st century.
Developing tomorrow’s leaders through experiential learning
We believe strongly in the transformational power of experiential learning, and have woven it into the fabric of all our educational travel programs. We take students on a journey into real-world situations where hands-on activities, reflection, and practical knowledge take centre stage.
Experiential learning is an educational approach that emphasises learning through direct experience. Rather than relying solely on traditional classroom instruction methods, experiential learning immerses students
in different environments to engage in active learning through hands-on activities, reflection, and the application of knowledge within real-world contexts.
This approach is rooted in the idea that individuals learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process and can apply their knowledge in practical situations.
7-Stage Learning and Teaching Framework
To ensure our travel programs remain aligned with experiential learning and teaching best practices, as well as consistently promoting active citizenship, Infuse Travel has developed our own unique Learning and Teaching Framework.
This framework forms the basis of our program design and learning resources, and has been carefully designed to advance the two core learning priorities of Critical Global Citizenship Education (cGCE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
Infuse Theory of Change
A theory of change explains how the work of an organisation is expected to lead to specific changes. A thorough theory of change helps to guide sound, evidence-based, program strategies.
Infuse’s Theory of Change begins with three challenges that we seek to address. First is structural disadvantage and discrimination, second is a feeling of powerlessness towards addressing our biggest global priorities, and third is a preference for adopting quick-fixes and simple technical solutions when trying to resolve complex challenges.
How are we different?
Global Citizenship
Global citizenship and civics are central to what it means to be an educated person in the 21st century. The Australian national curriculum recognises the importance of developing young Australians into competent and informed global citizens with strong intercultural communication skills. Our cultural immersion programs provide students with the knowledge and skills to work effectively across cultural boundaries within Australia and beyond.
Cross Curriculum Priorities
Alongside its commitment to global citizenship, the Australian Curriculum also focuses on three cross curriculum priorities for 21st century learning.
These are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Culture, Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia, and Sustainability. Our outdoor education, Indigenous immersion, and international service-learning programs all provide learning experiences that are aligned with these cross-curriculum priorities.
The Four Essential Capabilities of the 21st Century
The Australian Curriculum identifies four general capabilities as essential for young Australians. These are communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. A registered provider of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Infuse is committed to providing extraordinary opportunities for students to complete all sections of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a leading structured (non-formal education) youth development program, empowering all young Australians aged 14-24 to explore their full potential and find their purpose, passion and place in the world.
Infuse provides a range of specialist programs designed to support Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants in completing award requirements. We also partner with schools and Outdoor Educators to design exciting Duke of Ed programs for their students.
