We’re committed to creating meaningful experiences not just for the students and communities we work with, but also for the emerging professionals stepping into the world of purpose-driven careers. One of the ways we do this is by offering internship placements that give university students hands-on experience in the field of educational school travel.
Over the past 12 months we’ve had the privilege of working with two exceptional university student interns, Sabrina Sluvis and Mona Nohara. Both brought fresh perspectives, a strong work ethic and a genuine passion for global citizenship and social impact. From the moment they joined the team, they threw themselves into projects that mattered, especially within our impact evaluation and education spaces.
Their work has made a real contribution to our ongoing efforts to measure the impact of our programs, and we’re so grateful for the energy and thoughtfulness they brought to the team. It’s always inspiring to work alongside people who are just as committed to creating positive change as we are. We have no doubt that both Sabrina and Mona have bright futures ahead, and we’re proud to introduce them and share a little of their journey with you here.
Recently we chatted to Mona about her experience with Infuse.
Hi Mona! Tell us a little bit about yourself
I recently graduated with a Master of Development Studies from the University of Melbourne. I have Japanese and Egyptian heritage, grew up in Saudi Arabia and moved to Melbourne around 5 years ago! So I’ve always been surrounded by different cultures and people, which has shaped how I see the world. Outside of work and study I love being outdoors and bouldering! I’m always looking for new hiking trails to explore and new problems to solve.
What attracted you to intern with Infuse Travel?
I love traveling and learning from different cultures, so getting to support programs that combine education, impact, and exploration felt like the perfect fit. Not only was I attracted to Infuse Travel for its mission but also because I would get the opportunity to polish my Monitoring and Evaluation skills.
What did you enjoy most about your Infuse internship experience?
I really enjoyed having the independence to try out new things and figure them out on my own before getting guidance. This approach helped my learning a lot and gave me the space to build confidence in working independently and taking initiative! Working closely with the Director of Impact, I felt well supported and felt like I gained a mentor.
How do you think your time at Infuse contributed to your personal or professional growth?
I really enjoyed working on the Monitoring and Evaluation report! It was challenging at times, but the experience helped me clarify my interest in evaluation and how it can be used to drive meaningful change. As an aspiring development practioner, this internship gave me a clearer sense of how to translate theory into practice.
What are you up to now?
I am currently looking for new opportunities to apply what I have learnt. In between job applications, I have been making the most of the extra free time by reading more! Check out Mona’s LinkedIn profile here.
What advice would you give to other students considering internships at an impact-driven business?
Totally go for it! It’s a super rewarding experience and being surrounded by people who are passionate about the work that they do is very inspiring.
What social or environmental issue are you most passionate about?
Broadly, I am passionate about finding ways to push for more accountability and justice for a more sustainable and equitable world. This includes addressing climate change and challenging the systems such as the role of corporate greed and profit driven models that contribute and worsen it the crisis. This could also include addressing poverty and challenging the systems that contribute to the persistence of inequality.
Lastly, what’s your dream travel destination?
Peru! I’d love to visit the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu and experience the country’s incredible landscapes and rich history.
