Set sail from the world's end aboard the majestic USHUAIA, which will be your home for the next 11 days on this educational trip abroad. Settle into your cabin and then head up to the deck for breathtaking views as the ship sails through the scenic Beagle Channel.
As we traverse the Beagle Channel, one of the most biodiverse parts of Patagonia, keep your eyes open for wildlife encounters and prepare for an adventure like no other!
Today we begin our journey through the Drake Passage, home to some of the world’s strongest ocean currents and a rite of passage for all Antarctic adventurers! Situated at the point where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet and ecosystems collide, the Drake Passage is home to a mesmerising display of wildlife and seabirds, including the majestic albatross. If you’re lucky, you may also spot your first iceberg!
In addition to wildlife watching and iceberg scouting, you’ll spend these days on the Antarctica school trip participating in various onboard educational programs led by expert polar guides and scientists. Through interactive lectures and workshops, you’ll learn about the animals that call the area home, the history of Antarctic exploration and the important climate science work being done in the polar regions. You’ll never look at the polar regions the same way again!
Today is your first encounter with Antarctic land! First, we’ll navigate through the South Shetland Islands, an archipelago rich in wildlife and history. Then, we’ll take a thrilling ride on a Zodiac to a remote beach, where you’ll get your first encounter with Antarctica.
Upon landing, prepare yourself to be mesmerised by the beauty of this remote and unspoiled wilderness. Immerse yourself in the polar experience as you encounter a land filled with penguin and seal colonies and completely void of human interference. It’s an experience you will never forget.
These 3 days of the educational tour abroad will be action-packed and filled with adventure as you explore the Antarctic Peninsula, both by boat and by foot.
Through multiple Zodiac trips, you’ll get to discover different areas of the peninsula, witnessing the variation in this cold and hostile region. You’ll encounter enormous icebergs, seal rookeries, whales and volcanic islands.
While there will be some onboard activities, the focus of these 3 days on the Antarctica school trip is to explore off-ship, following in the footsteps of legendary polar explorers. Every day will be filled with adventure, excitement and new discoveries!
In the evening, you’ll gather as a group to debrief and participate in presentations about the day’s discoveries.
After 3 days of adventure, it’s time to bid farewell to Antarctica and begin our journey home. As we sail once again through the Drake Pass, take the time to reflect with your friends about your incredible experiences on this educational tour abroad.
