Grampians Hike and Bike Expedition

Departing school early, take in the Victorian countryside as you leave Melbourne and head towards one of Victoria's most beautiful granite mountain ranges, the Grampians! Look in awe at this incredible landscape towering above as you arrive at the heart of the Grampians, Halls Gap.

With the help of your Infuse Program Leader, you will prepare for the hiking leg of this intrepid outdoor education program. Travelling south, you’ll pass by some of the most iconic natural attractions in the central Grampians such as Venus Baths, Grand Canyon, the Pinnacle, Sundial Peak and Mount Rosea.

Start your journey from the Halls Gap Caravan Park and note your surroundings, because this will also be your finishing point of this outdoor education program!

Today, you’ll hike a total distance of 8.3 km, finishing at Bugiga Campground. This section of the walk involves stone staircases and footbridge crossings, following along Stony Creek towards the summit of the Pinnacle. There are impressive views from the Pinnacle all the way to Lake View Lookout.

Continue to the incredible Bugiga Campground, where you will be greeted with an amazing view of the surrounding country. Set up camp for a well-deserved rest and enjoy your first night camping under the stars!

Overnight: Bugiga Hike-in campground

Wake up in the morning to the peace and tranquillity of the mountains.

After a hearty breakfast cooked on a camp stove, you will leave Bugiga Campground and start the steady climb through the tall forest toward Mount Rosea. Mount Rosea is the most northern peak in the Serra Range and the mountain cliffs are some of the highest on the trail. Take some time to soak in the views and admire the epic beauty of this area.

After some time appreciating the vastness of the area, prepare yourself for a long descent! The trail down to Borough Huts features a series of steep and windy steps that will make you happy to reach camp.

Once you’ve arrived, enjoy a hard-earned meal cooked on a camp stove and share stories from today’s adventure with your friends.

Overnight: Borough Huts Campground

After completing your hike, it's time to take on another mode of transport, bike riding!

With local experts, you will ride from Borough Huts, past Lake Bellfield, through the quiet town of Pomonal and finally up to Lake Fyan. You’ll be camping on the south-western side of this quiet, untouched lake. This small, man-made lake is great for swimming and relaxing - well-earned after all your hard work.

Tonight, enjoy a fire and reflect on your achievements thus far on this outdoor education program!

Wake to the incredible view of the sun rising over Lake Fyans. Enjoy a hot breakfast, with plenty of hot chocolate and prepare for your day. Luckily, there is no rush this morning and you can take the time to test your bravery with a morning swim. We guarantee it will get the blood pumping for the day!

Now that you’re energised for your next day of riding, jump back on your bike and start riding towards the incredible Plantation Campground.

Set amongst the pines on the eastern edge of the Mt Difficult Range, you’ll enjoy spending the night at this peaceful campground. Play games with your friends, share stories around the campfire and fall asleep amongst the quiet stillness of the Grampians National Park.

Welcome the final day of your outdoor education program with a hot chocolate as you take in the beauty of the misty pine plantation. The excitement of completing your journey will be starting to kick in.

Jump on your bike one last time and enjoy the short bike ride down towards the location where it all started, the Halls Gap Caravan Park. Reflect on how far you’ve travelled since you left this very spot 5 days ago.

Congratulations! You have completed your Infuse outdoor education program! Celebrate with your group and share in an Infuse Ties ceremony, where you will have the opportunity to reflect with your group and celebrate your incredible achievement.

"I absolutely love working with my travel coordinator at Infuse Travel - Alanah. Her patience with assisting with all our concerns and queries was amazing. Her professional knowledge and ability to accommodate our personal college requirements is also much appreciated."
