Arrive on Bintan Island this afternoon. Pass through Indonesian immigration and make your way to our home for the week. Settle in this evening with dinner, orientation and games to get to know your Indonesian leaders.

Venture into the surrounding region after lunch and begin speaking with locals. Take a marine walk along the sea flats, see unique sea-life in the rock-pools and contribute to the goal of carbon-neutrality by planting mangroves with local village people.
After lunch, acquaint yourself with the foods and flavours of Indonesia during a cultural cooking class. Learn to cook some delicious dishes that you’ll share for your evening meal.

Dive deeper into Bintan culture today. Visit the island’s main town of Tanjung Pinang, the capital of the Riau Islands. Tanjung Pinang is home to many ethnic communities with Malay, Bugis, Banjar, Java and Sumatran people living peacefully alongside each other.
Visit the Chinese village of Senggarang to discover the oldest temple in Bintan, then take a boat to Penyengat Island, home of the historic Sultan of Johor. Embark on an amazing race in Penyengat to learn about the history of the place, enjoy a seafood lunch then take a traditional dance class. End the day exploring the shops in Tanjung Pinang’s oldest street.

Partner with local organisations and contribute to the global effort to bring safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) to the whole world by 2030. Together with local families or schools, students will install safe sanitation, kitchen sinks, running water and safe drinking water. Work alongside locals on this hands-on project while gaining valuable skills in civic literacy, global and cross-cultural awareness, sustainability, innovative thinking, communication and collaboration.
