Arrive at Kuala Namu International Airport, Sumatra, and check into a hotel for the night. Enjoy a welcome dinner and rest up before the journey into the jungle.

Overnight: Hotel, Medan

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Bukit Lawang, a village near Gunung Leuser National Park. Upon arrival, explore the town and get a feel for its vibrant atmosphere. In the afternoon, participate in a service project at the Sunshine Class, teaching local children. End the day with an introductory Indonesian language lesson to help immerse yourself in the culture.

Overnight: Guest House. Bukit Lawang

Start your morning with a guided hike through the lush jungle to reach the Batu Kapal Conservation Sanctuary, located along the tranquil Landak River. Once at the sanctuary, you will receive an orientation about the project and learn about the efforts to conserve wildlife and protect orangutans. In the afternoon, attend a presentation on palm oil production and its role in deforestation, which threatens the habitat of endangered species.

Overnight: Jungle Lodge, Batu Kapal Conservation

Spend the next few days engaging in meaningful conservation work. Activities will include wildlife monitoring, GPS mapping of habitats, and reforestation efforts to restore wildlife corridors. You’ll also assist in planting trees in the nursery, help with rubbish removal, and participate in educational outreach with the local community. During this time, you’ll also visit the Bat Caves of Bukit Lawang and take part in a full-day jungle hike to observe wildlife in their natural habitat.

Overnight: Jungle Lodge, Batu Kapal Conservation

Venture into nearby villages to help with community-based service projects, supporting environmental education and engaging with local youth. Contribute to sustainability efforts, such as upcycling plastics and teaching English at the Sunshine Class.

Overnight: Guest House. Bukit Lawang

After saying goodbye to the sanctuary, enjoy a scenic hike back to Bukit Lawang. Spend the afternoon exploring the local market, where you can purchase handmade crafts and sample local food. Reflect on the experience with a group discussion about the impact of your conservation efforts.

Take the 4-5 hour drive back to Medan. Upon arrival, enjoy a final dinner together, sharing stories and insights from the trip. Depart Medan, returning home with unforgettable memories.
